What does it mean to get an Australian Labradoodle Puppy?

Getting an Australian Labradoodle Puppy Without Going Down Under: The Labradoodle is quickly becoming one of the most beloved dog mixes in the US. The appeal of this Labrador-Poodle Mix is its intelligence, gentle nature, and potential to be a hypoallergenic dog – which makes it great for people with allergies (and those who prefer not to have to clean up shedding dog hair all the time!)

The first documented lab poodle hybrid was created in Australia to serve as a potential service dog. The test was such a success, that Australian breeders started breeding Labradoodles as family pets, in addition to being great service dogs.

Since Labradoodles started in Australia, many people are under the misconception that they need to go all the way to Australia to get one! The good news is, many quality Labradoodle breeders in the United States are breeding Australian Labradoodles. This generally means that the breeding stock they use are Labradoodles from Australia.

These are multi-generational Labradoodles and have the more consistent hypoallergenic qualities that make them such great pets for people with allergies. Labradoodles of multigenerational Australian lineage are the gold standard. To find a reputable breeder of Australian Labradoodle multi-gen puppys, make sure your breeder is a member of an accredited society, such as The Australian Labradoodle Association of America, Inc. (ALAA) – which requires that all of their breeding dogs are tested for hip displaysia.

Bear in mind, that US lineage cross bred Labradoodles are also excellent choices, as long as they come from a reputable Labradoodle breeder. Whether you get a Labradoodle of Australian pedigree, or a Labradoodle of US pedigree, your main concern should be that your puppy is healthy, hardy and happy!
