How to bring your Labradoodle puppy home
Starting Off Right with Your New Labradoodle Puppy :
The long wait is almost over…and you and your family are excited beyond belief
about this new cuddly addition to your family! But for the love of your
Labradoodle, get your enthusiasm under control and make some plans about how
you’re going to introduce him to your home. This will help to make your puppy’s
transition to his new home and family as easy and stress free as possible.
Before your Labradoodle Puppy Arrives…
First, ask your breeder to send you pictures of your Labradoodle Pup as he’s
growing… this will help you bond before he even arrives. Next, schedule an
appointment with a qualified Veterinarian. You will want to get this
relationship started right away, because you may have some questions or need
guidance.
Also, consider enrolling the puppy in a puppy training or puppy kindergarten
class. Your Vet can recommend a qualified puppy trainer from your area. Today,
there are many different methods of training, so visit the class before your
puppy arrives to make sure you are comfortable.
Labradoodles are energetic, fun dogs that enjoy the attention and structure that
a good dog training program will provide. It is also a great way for you to meet
other dog and puppy owners in your area.
The Day Your Doodle Puppy Arrives…:
You may be surprised how excited you will be. After all the planning and
consideration, your Labradoodle Puppy is finally coming home! Honestly, there is
just about nothing cuter then a little Labradoodle Pup!
Let’s face it, everyone in the family will be tempted to grab, hold and kiss the
puppy, and to oooh and ahhh over its cute, cuddly, curly little face!
It’s important to remember, this is a big time of transition for your
Labradoodle Puppy and you will want to handle the move from the kennel to your
home – and from his canine family to your human family – with great sensitivity.
It’s important to keep things ‘low key’. When you get home, you should enter the
house first. If there are kids or other family members there, don’t let them
approach. Instead, have them sit let the puppy approach them to sniff and get to
know them by their scents.
It’s important that you limit the area your Labradoodle Puppy can play and roam
in for his own safety and to help your pup learn its place in your family. Over
time, you can give permission to enter more rooms and to roam more freely.
Make sure you purchase a crate in advance of your puppy’s arrival so you can
start crate-training right away. There are different methods and thoughts to
crate-training and you will have to find a schedule that is right for your
family. However, you will have much quicker success if you choose the right
sized crate for your puppy. It the crate is too large, your new puppy may have
an accident and create a doodle “do do” – right in the crate! And that’s
obviously not a good thing!
Now, that you have your Vet, your trainer, your Crate and the right mindset –
you’re ready to bring your little doodle puppy home!
